gland, inserted at the point where the petiole connects to the stem - or sometimes where the blade joins the stem in case of a sessile leaf.
Most often, each leaf has two stipules, in a lateral position; more rarely, the stipulation is
unique and axillary as in Potamogetonaceae ....
