Spathe: n. f. A spathe is a large, membranous or leafy bract, often colored in the shape of a sac, cone
flared and open laterally, more or less enveloping the spadix of some plants.
Examples: the spathe surrounding the ears of corn or that of the Araceae spadix.
It is in corn husks that Mexicans cook tamales in foil.
