Portulaceae: The Portulaceae (or Portulaceae) family includes dicotyledonous plants; it includes 500 species divided into 19 to 21 genera. The origin of the name can be found in the Latin porcacla, this plant having been given, since antiquity, to pigs. The doctor Oribase made it the synonym of porcillagine herba (one of the vernacular names of this plant being porcelain). The name was later distorted, by metathesis, into portulaca.
