Cep: "Cep" is the common name for edible mushrooms (basidiomycetes) of the boletus genus whose big squat foot looks like a tree trunk. The word "cèpe" is derived from cep, a Gascon word which means "trunk" because of its stocky and firm foot - which earned it the nickname "big foot"
There are more than twenty edible species, recognizable by their swollen foot and the characteristic tubes (the “hay” or the “beard”) which line the inner face.
