Acidophile: Acidophile applies to organisms that can only survive and multiply in acidic (low pH) or very acidic environments.
Several of them degrade in a pH higher than 4. They are extremophile-true organisms (one sometimes incorrectly includes under the term acidophilic organisms which withstand high acidity but which can also live in a less acidic, neutral or basic).
Do not confuse with the qualifier "acidiphile ...
