History: Cheval Blanc Courchevel opened its doors in 2006 in the Jardin-Alpin district, where Bernard Arnault learned to ski as a child. It is the first establishment of the “Cheval Blanc” brand to have seen the light of day. Originally, it was a hotel-restaurant in poor condition, La Caravelle; it is demolished, rebuilt and then renamed. The name comes from the Bordeaux Grand Cru Château Cheval Blanc which already belongs to the luxury group. It was decorated by Sybille de Margerie who had already worked for the Mandarin in Paris. Several works of art and design pieces dot the place. The hotel has 36 rooms or suites, a large apartment, as well as a private chalet of 150 m2. Quickly, Cheval Blanc became a place described as "mythical".
Yannick Alleno, assisted by Gérard Barbin, has been the chef since 2008. The restaurant, awarded two stars in the Michelin Guide since 2010, obtained a third star in February 2017. The “1947”, the gourmet restaurant (22 seats only, five tables), takes the name of the most prestigious vintage of Château Cheval Blanc. The hotel was awarded the prestigious Palace label in 2011. Its reputation is built on the quality of the service offered, one of the “most select on the planet” as written by L'Ob.
This exceptional place is only open four months of the year with an occupancy rate of 90% and a loyal clientele that returns from year to year.
For the 2019-2020 season, more than 150 people are employed, under the direction of Laurent Branover. The hotel has a Vuitton boutique, a Dior, a space for Berluti; the spa is under the Guerlain brand. But the highlight of the establishment remains the swimming pool with a mirrored ceiling and a birch forest. A yurt is installed outside at the foot of the slopes.
Shortly after its opening, the establishment faces competition within the resort by the total renovation of the hotel. The Cheval Blanc brand: In 2010, LVMH creates a subsidiary for hotel activities, LVMH Hotel Management, headed by Olivier Lefebvre. As part of the commercial desire to market its luxury products and create synergies (cosmetics, wines, etc.), the “Cheval Blanc” brand is developed by LVMH for different establishments, all unique and never on the same model, including one in Maldives (Cheval Blanc Randheli opened on November 15, 2013: 45 villas and five restaurants), in St-Barth then projects in Paris (on the site of La Samaritaine with 72 rooms and suites) and Oman (where the works are taking a lot of months late). The five-star La Samaritaine hotel project was announced in 2012 with an opening promised by LVMH three years later. A majority of rooms with a view of the Seine are on the program. The transformation of the entire building, since its closure in 2005, is contested by residents. But the hotel project respecting the architecture of the historic site is well accepted. The work, which should last at least two years, is considerable. The architect for the building is Édouard François while Peter Marino is the interior designer responsible for the decoration of the 72 suites.
These places are showcases for the group's brands. "The brand benefits from the know-how of all the houses of the group in terms of real estate and customer knowledge" specifies the director of hotel activities of LVMH.
