Bœuf à la mode (Le): Bœuf à la mode is a restaurant founded in 1792 near the Palais-Royal, in Paris, by two brothers from Marseille. It was bought under the Directory (*) by Tissot, who made it an elegant place renowned for its southern cuisine; the new sign - an ox dressed as a "marvelous" - contributed to its success. Under the Restoration (**), Tissot dressed the ox "in the fashion of the day", with a shawl and a flanged hat. The establishment disappeared in 1936.
